About Julie

Dr. Julie Schatz-Stevens received her undergraduate degree in North Dakota and her graduate education in Indiana at the University of Notre Dame. She completed her post-doc at the University of Notre Dame’s Center for Children and Families focused on intervention programming for family conflict. She completed additional coursework at Western Michigan University for licensing eligibility in Michigan. Julie is also a full-time Professor of Psychology and Counselor Education at Aquinas College, teaching classes such as: Family, Couples, and Marriage Counseling, Counseling Children and Adolescents, Family Violence, and the Psychology of Women. 

Julie is an advocate for raising awareness about mental health issues and how they can impact individuals and families. She has provided many continuing education trainings to mental health providers and community organizations and businesses on domestic violence, mental health care issues related to children and teens, and recognizing depression and anxiety in patients.

Julie primarily works with children and teens, women, couples, and families. She has experience working with children who have experienced abuse, women who have experienced domestic violence, bullying, parenting, blended family and divorce issues, depression, anxiety, family relationships, women’s issues (superwoman syndrome, work-life balance) and stress management. Her approach draws from empirically validated treatments (primarily Cognitive Behavioral, Emotion-Focused, Solution-Focused, trauma informed, and play) and individualizing that care for each client, couple, or family. She believes that everyone has an important voice to be heard and seeks to create a safe, collaborative environment to work together in helping work through life’s many challenges.
