Brett Townsend, MSW Clinical Intern*

About Brett

Life can be messy, confusing, and hard. Brett approaches therapy as a space for healing and growth within this, grounded in curiosity, sincerity, and non-judgment. Together with clients, he explores the heart of their issues and works toward practical solutions they can apply in daily life. Therapy is about understanding and outcomes, and his hope is to support clients in finding both.

Brett has experience in inpatient psychiatric settings, supporting people through anxiety, depression, trauma, and major life challenges. He has also worked in nonprofit, educational, and media roles, deepening his respect for people’s stories. With a background in communication and philosophy, he brings reflection, empathy, and a question-based style to his work, helping clients make meaning of their experiences.

Brett’s approach is eclectic and always client-centered. He draws from a range of approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), strengths-based, and existential perspectives. In his work, he balances evidence-based tools with a dedication to authenticity, so therapy feels practical and supports self-compassion, growth, and being true to oneself.
